Our History

Serving Christian education in Denpasar, Bali for more than 40 years.

OUR BEGINNINGS

Opened on 18 July 1984

Wednesday, 18 July 1984 was a historic day. On that day our school was officially opened at Jalan Surapati IV No. 6, Denpasar, Bali, under the name Sekolah Advent Denpasar.

The opening was attended by leaders of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, including the President of the West Indonesia Union, Pastor Dr. Bahasa Soemarna; the President of the East Java Conference, Pastor Arnold J. Dompas; and the Education Director of the East Java Conference, Pastor R.B. Matahari. Also present were a special representative of the Governor of Bali, Mrs. Dra. A. Tista, the Bali Provincial Office of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, and local officials, a sign of the local government’s support for the school.

The dedication sermon was given by Pastor Dr. Bahasa Soemarna. The ribbon was cut by Mrs. B. Soemarna, and the school sign was unveiled by Pastor A.J. Dompas.

The school is operated by the Yayasan Perguruan Advent “Permata Ibu” Denpasar, Bali, established by Notarial Deed No. 6 of Amir Syarifuddin, S.H., dated 19 January 1984. The school was founded to meet the need for Christian education that develops the whole person: body, mind and spirit.

OUR JOURNEY

Growing Through Challenges

  • 1984: SD Advent Denpasar opened with its first Principal, Mr. Raden Yoseph, assisted by Mr. Henry Malau. The school had only 2 classrooms for Grades 1 to 6, with 12 founding students (5 boys and 7 girls).
  • 1994 to 1997: Enrolment declined until only 2 students remained in September 1994. The school was closed from 1995 to 1997.
  • 15 July 1997: By God’s grace, SD Advent Denpasar reopened with 7 students.
  • July 1999: The Kindergarten opened with teacher Ms. Joan Balemanggi and 6 children.
  • 2000/2001: The school was renamed TK and SD Advent Permata Ibu.
  • 2001/2002: The Junior High School (then SLTP) opened with 4 students.

CHARACTER EDUCATION

Growing in Faith

In line with our vision and mission and the principles of Adventist education worldwide, Permata Ibu holds a monthly APTA character-building program and Ten Days of Prayer each semester. Teachers also regularly visit and pray with the families of current and prospective students.

LOOKING AHEAD

Our Hopes

With limited funds, we continue to work towards better learning facilities, especially a science laboratory and larger classrooms. For this, the school relies on the generosity of donors whom God has blessed.

Our prayer is that Permata Ibu will keep growing, that our children will know their Creator, and that they will be a source of pride for their parents, community and nation, and above all bring glory to God.

“But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:19)
